Henry Gray and Crawford Dick first became acquainted with each other as coworkers at Conder Steel Fabrications Scotland. When their ambition outgrew their role, both men saw and seized a gap in the market to provide experienced project management consultation in turnkey construction services. In 1978, Gray & Dick Ltd was established.
Since then, Gray & Dick has specialised further with a focus on the manufacture and installation of steelwork, glass and polycarbonate architecture. While Henry and Crawford have now retired, the new generation have taken the reins to drive Gray & Dick forward for another 45 years. Henry Gray’s sons Stuart and Fraser now run the company alongside Richard Taylor. With almost 70 years’ of experience within the structural glazing market between them, they have developed their own strong professional ties with architects and suppliers to bring architectural projects across the nation to life.
Our Vision
At Gray & Dick, we pride ourselves on delivering expert advice and high-quality products to both the commercial and domestic market. Our strong working partnerships are built on a foundation of communication, trust and reliability. Taking client’s and architect’s concepts, we use our wealth of knowledge to engineer structures which realise their aesthetics. We ensure that we understand the space, materials and design needed, working with the architect to articulate the final design and carry out their vision.
Utilising the latest design and detailing software, we take a concept through to production with our own in-house structural engineers. Our experience taught us that it was best to bring the control of manufacture in-house to ensure the quality for our components. The unique service we offer architects and contractors has been a cornerstone of providing the best possible experience for our clients. Our attention to detail has allowed us to become market leaders in the design, supply and installation of structural glazing, architectural metalwork and high-quality cladding systems.

We are proud of our Scottish heritage, and so we offer our services to local architects whenever possible to share values and vision to bring their projects to life. We have played a part in the changing landscape of our hometown of Glasgow, contributing to the city’s history and heritage through our work on Kelvin Hall and Glasgow’s Theatre Royal. We worked closely with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport when it was first founded in the ‘70s to fit SPT stations. And 40 years later, we welcomed them back as clients to work on refurbishment projects for new glass canopies at Glasgow Subway stations. Across the UK, our national projects have breathed new life into historic spaces and modern builds alike, be it a new entrance hall and Slype for York’s Grade I&II Listed Guildhall or The Ivy Brasserie’s Skylight Terrace in Manchester.
