Driven by the passion of Paisley’s community to put their unique heritage on an international stage, Paisley Museum Reimagined is poised to redefine the museum experience and elevate Paisley’s cultural standing.
Anticipated to open this year following an extensive multi-year renovation, Gray & Dick are proud to have once again contributed to the unique architectural fabric of Scotland. Seamlessly blending the classic and the contemporary, the museum’s refurbishment is Scotland’s biggest cultural heritage project that has been shaped by, and for, the people of the town.
Creating a Cultural Thread through Paisley
Part of a once-in-a-generation investment, the £45 million transformation of Paisley Museum has been carefully designed to create a world-class visitor attraction that the people of Renfrewshire can be proud of. With the potential to transform the area’s future, the museum is expected to see 125,000 visitors pass through its doors every year (almost four times the current numbers), and a £79 million lift to the local economy over three decades.
At its core, Paisley Museum Reimagined will bring history to life, weaving together the past, present and future. The museum will tell the unique stories of the town and celebrate its industrial heritage, including that of the globally admired Paisley Pattern.

Award-Winning Design
The ambitious redesign and engineering intervention of Paisley Museum has been carried out by world-renowned architects, AL_A, who radically reimagined the museum and its campus. Working with an international team, including exhibition designers Opera Amsterdam, Paisley Museum Reimagined has been reshaped into a cultural hub of discovery.
The innovative redesign and renovation saw AL_A win the prestigious AR Future Projects Award for Cultural Regeneration 2024, organised by The Architectural Review. Celebrating design excellence, this achievement recognises the significant role the project is playing in the town and wider region’s cultural regeneration.
An Unforgettable Welcome
An essential part of the renovation is the dramatic red glazed entrance hall. Designed and installed by Gray & Dick, the striking entrance is radical and unique to Pasley. Bringing colour to both the interior and exterior, it boldly announces a new way into the museum. The fully-accessible entrance courtyard and red, curved insulating glass create a dynamic presence on the high street and a contemporary face for Paisley Museum Reimagined.
The complex glass composition includes a double silver sun protection coating, colour film combinations, and a highly reflective AGC Interpane ipachrome coating, all installed on a RAICO glazing system.
