Luxury Scottish Hotel, Marcliffe
Gray & Dick continues to shape the architectural landscape of Scotland with their contribution to the multimillion pound refurbishment at luxury Scottish hotel, Marcliffe.
As part of the upgrades to Aberdeen’s only five-star hotel and wedding venue, a new glass dome has been constructed over the site of the open air courtyard to provide a new dining experience at the popular establishment.
Glass Doomed Roof
Gray & Dick were commissioned to design and create an extravagant 9 metre x 9 metre glass dome in the roof of the new brasserie, bringing light and airiness to the space.
Architectural glazing fit for a 5-star hotel
Marcliffe is renowned across Scotland for its quality and service: its accolades include an AA five-star rating, an AA Rosette recognising food prepared with care and skill using quality ingredients, and a Top Tier Wedding Venue of the Year finalist.
The construction of the Skylark Brasserie comes as the latest of several multimillion pound upgrades to the hotel, and it was necessary to ensure its design reflected the quality and service Marcliffe’s patrons have come to expect.
An elevated dining experience
The brasserie, named Skylark after the bird celebrated for its joyful song and steep ascents into the sky, embodies the space’s spirit of freedom, lightness, and elevation.
Gray & Dick honoured the space with a custom glass domed rooflight. Ample light floods the space from every angle to brighten the space, while its intricate art deco framing creates a focal point for guests and diners.
Rising above the roofline
The curved steel frame of the glass dome rises above the roofline to create an elegant silhouette visible from both the interior and exterior. Gray & Dick designed and fabricated this bespoke structure at our base in Glasgow, test-assembling the metal frame to ensure a perfect fit within the new structure.
